A Place Rich in History
Meadow Creek Valley boasts a rich history shaped by industry and community. Moses Gwinn was the first owner, later joined by William Gwinn, who acquired the western half of the valley.
The construction of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad in 1875, followed by the Sewell Valley Railroad, transformed Meadow Creek into a bustling terminal supporting the hardwood lumber industry.
The town thrived with businesses like the Sewell Valley Bank, a general store, and community landmarks such as the Baptist Church and a locally powered water and electric system.
Today, with the entrepreneurial spirit of the local residents and the connection to the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, The Meadows continues to remain as a testament to this historic town.
